Our Commitment

A Group focused on its social responsibility

The ERAMET Group carries out mining and metal processing activities, so by its nature is concerned by sustainable development issues (economic and social development, protecting the environment and health, safety, community integration, etc.). For ethical, economic and social reasons, the Group has put sustainable development at the centre of its activities and undertaken a continuous improvement process on the subject. The aim of this process is to conduct activities sustainably wherever the Group is active and support its development on new territories and in new sectors.

An approach formalized through charters

ERAMET has drawn up an Ethical Charter and a Sustainable Development Policy that together set the course for its social responsibility and ensure the transparency of its actions. They provide a sustainable framework for the Group’s performance of its activities and concern not only employees but also customers and other stakeholders.

The ERAMET group complies strictly with all regulations that apply to its activities. All developments are in full compliance with performance standards and international best practices in the mining and industry sectors. To support the implementation of its sustainable development policy, it has also adopted dedicated charters and policies, in particular for the environment, energy, health and safety.

Four essential directions for improvement

ERAMET conducts its activities within a strict and demanding framework where social responsibility and transparency are key. For this purpose, the Group has defined four working objectives:

To protect its employees and involve them in its actions;

To preserve the equilibrium sustainably by managing the risks and impacts of its activities on health and the environment;

To adapt opportunities for Sustainable Development to benefit our customers;

To create value for everyone while maintaining a trusting relationship with the stakeholders in its activities.

Furthermore, the Group has set up monitoring and control instruments to check that its goals and actions are put into practice. EraGreen, the Group’s own software, is used to collect and consolidate environmental data from industrial and mining sites. ERAMET is also supported by a system of regular internal audits of its entities’ environmental, health and safety performance, while inspections carried out under the insurance programme are an opportunity to focus on industrial and environmental risks. This approach to risk control helps ERAMET to drive its continuous improvement process.

Catherine Tissot-Colle, Communications and Sustainable Development Director

“Sustainable development, relationships with stakeholders, listening... Our Group is voluntarily committed to dialog and transparency, both in its host countries and as part of its new projects. The challenge: to build and maintain a reputation founded on clear commitments and verifiable deeds. For ERAMET, this permanent ambition is a daily issue.”

Regularly revised, cross-Group action plans

ERAMET’s sustainable development policy was rolled out on every Group site from 2010. It is implemented through a multiannual action plan that is approved by the Executive Committee and currently covers the 2012-2016 period. Prioritised on three levels, objectives are divided into short and medium term targets and reviewed annually according to results. They are implemented by all of the Group’s divisions and operating entities.

Involvement corroborated through partnerships

Eager to contribute to economic and social development in host countries and regions and to fight all forms of corruption, the Group has been a member of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) since 2011.

As part of the Weda Bay Nickel project, ERAMET has also joined the BBOP program (Business and Biodiversity Offsets Program), which aims to exchange experience and expertise in ecological offsetting.
